WHAT WE DO
The Kesia Nyawara International Foundation mobilizes resources for neglected senior citizens in rural communities who are inflicted with aging related diseases. Our focus is mainly on delivering grass roots resources, sourcing primary health services to those in need, by engaging the local health services facilities, families, caregivers, activist-philanthropists, stakeholders, while working in collaboration with local churches, community leaders, and health care institutions. We aim to put in place systems that enables us to act quickly and effectively, with a proven ability to leverage efficiencies of the private sector and foster strong partnerships at the county levels.

OUR OBJECTIVES
- To raise awareness on the impact of Alzheimer’s disease amongst the population in Siaya especially its debilitating effect on the elderly and their relatives;
- To create awareness, education, disseminate information , research, gather data on spread and impact of Alzheimer’s Disease in Siaya;
- To support the selection, training, exposure and education of Alzheimer’s Disease care givers in our local communities;
- To offer timely support and care to the elderly in our midst who are more prone to also suffer from Alzheimer’s Disease;
- To provide structured guidance and counseling support to individuals, families, groups and communities affected by Alzheimer’s Disease;
- To link up Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s disease, Arthritis, Blindness, Physical Disability, Mental and Emotional disease management teams, experts and patients across the global for better and more effective management purposes;
- To promote collaborative research, information sharing, education, communication and training amongst likeminded groups across the world especially the south-south and north-south collaboration; and,
- To offer dietary, nutrition, physical, social and spiritual services to Alzheimer’s disease afflicted persons on a regular and sustained basis throughout the disease.
ACTIVITIES
Make available:
- Primary medical care;
- Organize bi-yearly medical camps, which including registration of participants to the Kenya National Health Insurance Fund, subsidize initial payment;
- Diagnostic laboratory and radiology services;
- Preventive services including, screening for Alzheimer’s and Parkinson disease, diabetes, cancer and other aging-related, immunizations against vaccine preventable diseases, screening for elevated blood lead levels, communicable diseases and cholesterol;
- Eye, ear and dental screening;
- Preventive dental services;
- Emergency medical services;
- Pharmaceutical services, as appropriate to the particular health center; and,
- Referrals to other providers of medical and health-related services including substance abuse and mental health services.
- Outreach/yearly medical camps;
- Transportation to medical appointments;
- Interpreter services; and,
- Education about primary health services, availability and appropriate use.
LONG TERM GOALS
- Develop an integrated healthcare and support center for Alzheimer’s patients and those suffering from other aging-related diseases.
- Furnish, equip and manage the center for people affected by Alzheimer’s and their families.
- Identify and recruit qualified health professional teams, and train to manage and treat patients at the Center.
- Visit local health communities and hold information workshops across 5 sub counties in Siaya, Kenya.
- Undertake community outreach sessions across Siaya County.
- Hold checkup clinics/medical camps on Alzheimer’s disease and other aging-related diseases.
- Identify critical patients for admission for intervention and referral.
- Train community resource persons on care and support.
- Solicit for essential treatment drugs for Alzheimer’s patients.
- Provide Quality Treatment and resources to vulnerable and at risk patients.
- Host research and treatment interns on Alzheimer’s from across the globe.
- Share information with other treatment centers across the country and internationally.
- Prepare a range of nutritious foods for feeding in-patients.
